Rummy nose tetra originates from South America, it is found in the Amazon basins around Peru and also on the Orinoco River.
Sexing
The only obvious difference between the sexes is when the females are in spawning mode, their bodies will swell.
Breeding
This species can be difficult to breed; this is mainly caused by incorrect water conditions making the fish sterile. The addition of spawning mops with the correct water parameters will aid the breeding, subdued lighting must also be used. The eggs are very prone to fungus, so all breeding equipment must be sterilized before use.
Lifespan
The normal lifespan is 5-6 years but there are reported cases of Hemigrammus bleheri living up to 8 years.
Short description
Hemigrammus bleheri is also known as the aquarium canary as its nose will turn pale if there are any problems with the water parameters.
